Banned Books (2016)

Banned Book Week was September 25 – October 1, 2016. Atkins Library’s September display was in support of the freedom to seek & to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. Books usually are challenged with the best intentions—to protect others from difficult ideas & information. Throughout history, more & different kinds of people & groups have attempted—& continue to attempt—to suppress anything that conflicts with or anyone who disagrees with their own beliefs. Censorship of constitutionally protected speech, whether for protection or for any other reason, violates the First Amendment. Celebrate your first amendment rights by reading a banned book!
