Currently on Display: September: Banned Books

Banned Book Week was September 25 – October 1, 2016. Atkins Library’s September display was in support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. Books usually are challenged with the best intentions—to protect others from difficult ideas and information. Throughout history, more and different kinds of people and groups have attempted—and continue to attempt—to suppress anything that conflicts with or anyone who disagrees with their own beliefs. Censorship of constitutionally protected speech, whether for protection or for any other reason, violates the First Amendment. Celebrate your first amendment rights by reading a banned book!
